Day trips to Sierra Nevada – Ski on your next Costa Vacation!

While the sunny Southern tip of the Spanish coastline is widely recognised as a beach holiday haven, after the summer draws to a close, a large majority of tourists return home and beach beds and parasols are all for the most part stored away, a nearby snowy mountaintop will indicate the beginning of the skiing season on the Costa del Sol.

Located just 2-3 hours away from Marbella by car, the peaks of Sierra Nevada (Spanish for snowy mountain) in Granada are an amazing contrast to the nearby marinas lined with palm trees and beach bars on the coastline. Europe’s most southern ski resort, Sierra Nevada has a capacity for over 30,000 skiers per hour, as well as the greatest skiable vertical slope in the country. The resort offers a total of 115 runs covering just over 105km (70 mi) of alpine skiing slopes – 16 Green, 40 Blue, 50 Red, and 9 Black that can be reached by the various chairlifts, cable cars or t-bar lifts.

The highest peak in the mountain range is Mulhacen which stands at 3,480m above sea level, and the resort offers a variety of slalom pistes for beginner to advanced skiers, as well as a cross-country skiing circuit, a Snow Park and night skiing on Saturdays. Apres-ski facilities include ice skating, toboggans, ski bikes, saunas, a range of fantastic restaurants and tapas bars and a lively nightlife scene.

Sierra Nevada is the sunniest resort in Europe and it goes without saying that suntan lotion is a definite must! But the combination of natural snowfall on the mountain range and a highly advanced artificial snowmaking system ensures good snow conditions throughout the entire season, which can last until the beginning of April.

Our resorts are ideally situated between Fuengirola and Marbella so that you can easily find yourself gliding down the alpine slopes of Sierra Nevada during the day and later enjoy an early evening glass of wine on the beach, bathed in the radiant reds and purples of the sun setting over the Mediterranean.
